Mission Critical Services
The term mission critical refers to any factor which is crucial to the successful completion of an d entire project. And in crisis management,it plays a role in triage-type decision be made in which certain components must be eliminated or deployed.
IBM claimed be a mission critical services provider. In the recent story “Mission Critical” which is written by Vogt(communication generalist in team System Z),she took lots of cases to prove this, from e-mail solution to exploring the universe. One case is Bank of New Zealand turned to IBM’s solutions by replacing a grid of 131 Sun SPARC Systems with just on IBM System Z(mainframe). I discussed with my classmate about this topic: what is the advantage of mainframe? The answers should be varies, but the key points are its electric saving and lower management cost. These features makes IBM differentiate itself from competitions. The other case is being NASA’s partner helping mankind exploring moon and mars. Some famous products like mainframe and DB2 were developed for the Apollo 11 mission and service enterprise now. At last, she end with retired NASA flight director’s words:”Without IBM and the systems they provided, we would not have landed on the moon”.
It is that IBM provide mission critical services to customer worldwide makes IBM a great company.
